At the Engineers Canada Board meeting on December 9, 2024, the Futures of Engineering Accreditation (FEA) Path Forward Report was received by the Board for information . The report is comprised of 18 recommendations that propose shifts to the Canadian engineering accreditation system, founded on research and engagements with interest holders over a three-year span. span of three years.
As Engineers Canada embarks on its 2025-2029 Strategic Plan, the report sets a foundation for the new strategic direction, Realizing Accreditation and Academic Assessments. With the second phase of the project underway, staff at Engineers Canada are now working to support the Engineers Canada Board to determine the next steps.
Work in progress (and to come) includes:
- Establishing structure for the Pilot Study: Engineers Canada’s CEO will initiate the Full Spectrum Competency (FSCP) Profile Pilot Study, as per recommendation #12.
- Reviewing the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board’s (CEAB) policy-making functions: Engineers Canada’s Governance Review Task Force will study the Report’s recommendation (#15) to separate the CEAB’s policy-making functions from operational activities.
- Hosting education sessions: Engineers Canada staff will deliver virtual information sessions to Board Directors, and provincial and territorial engineering regulators to build knowledge about the implications of the report’s remaining recommendations on the current accreditation system.
Additional FEA Path Forward Report recommendations will be brought to the Engineers Canada Board for consideration on an ongoing basis, based on results of current work and continued engagement with interest holders. Updates on this work will be posted to this webpage as it progresses.
